How to Trick Your Body into Losing Weight

Do you find yourself turning to tricks and traps in order to lose weight? Do weight loss pills sound like the answer to your prays? These drugs can do more harm than good as well as cost you an arm and a leg. And nutritional nightmares can come from single food diets.

What you need are a few healthy tricks to help you lose those extra pounds easily and naturally.

Lean on Low Density Foods

This trick will allow you to feel just as full when eating the same amount of food and you will absorb fewer calories.

Food density is the scientific fact behind this "magic." Low density foods such as fruits and vegetables are filling and bulky but don't carry a lot of calories. High density foods such as ones loaded with sugars and fats have a lot of calories crammed into small servings.

Try substituting the same amount of a low density food for a high density selection. You will not only feel just as satisfied with the fruit but you will also save yourself hundreds of calories.

Eat more foods such as produce, legumes and whole grains and decrease the amount of sugary and fatty foods. Keep in mind that even low-fat and fat-free foods can have a tremendous amount of sugar in them.

Fluff up Your Food

A Pennsylvania study found that foods with extra air whipped into them might help you lose weight since they cause you to eat less.

Trick your senses by filling up on air filled foods such as butter free popcorn and low-fat frozen yogurt.

Shrink Your Serving Sizes

The more food you have on your plate the more you are likely to eat. The opposite is true as well. You can control the serving size better if you cook at home.

Try eating off of a smaller plate to help with reducing the size of your portions. When eating at a restaurant split an entree with your spouse to overcome huge portions. If you are eating alone, put half of the meal in a doggie bag before you begin to eat.

Limit Food Variety

With a large variety of food you are more likely to eat more since your stomachs fuel gauge shuts down.

You are more likely to eat beyond feeling full just so you can taste all of the foods. Limit your selection of snacks. Keep only one kind of chips or one type of cake in the cupboard or refrigerator. You will get tired of the same old taste and will eat less. Instead you should keep a wide selection of fruits and vegetables on hand.

Ditch High Calorie Drinks

Studies show you can put on extra pounds by drinking beverages high in calories. Since the drinks go right through you, your body does not register them.

You can still feel hungry for more food after drinking beverages with lots of empty calories. Replace high calorie drinks with low or no-calorie ones such as water or tea.

Yes ma'am! The "high energy drinks have to go. Even on 30 to 60 mile bike rides I usually only have the lowest calorie mixes with water. 20 calories per bottle and often a full bottle comes back. Great post. Thank you Kim!
