The Meaning of Colors

Color can have a profound effect on one's mood as well as on their level of energy. Color can also affect someones ability to concentrate or to focus well. Color can also have an effect on the way someone appears to look in the clothing they wear. The color of vehicle you drive can tell others a great deal about your over-all personality.

Interior decorators and designers take color very seriously when implementing choices into the homes or offices of their clients. Changing the wall color in a room can change the way a person feels when they spend time in it. It's surprising all the different ways color plays a role in our everyday lives.

For example, people tend to feel more relaxed in a room that's painted green, This is the reason people waiting to be seen on television usually wait in what's called the "green" room, as it's actually painted green. Black = Authority and power. Black is also a popular fashion color since wearing black makes an individual appear thinner.

Black can imply submission as priests often wear this color to signify their submission to God. Black outfits can be a bit overpowering and can make the wearer appear to be on the evil side.

White = Innocence and purity. Brides often wear white wedding dresses to signify their purity. White reflects light and is also considered a summer color.

Interior designers enjoy working with white, as do fashion designers, because it's light, neutral and goes with everything. But the downside to the color white is dirt shows easily and it can be difficult to keep clean. To imply sterility doctors and nurses wear white lab coats and white uniforms.

Red = Intense emotions. Red is the most emotionally intense color there is. Red actually makes the heart beat faster and increases respiration. Red is also the color of love.

Wearing red clothing will get you noticed. The color can also make someone appear larger than they are when they wear red clothing. If you are faced with a negotiations meetings or a confrontation, wearing the color red might not be very helpful with the situation.

Automobile thieves steal more red cars than any other color. People who drive red cars tend to get stopped by police more often. Red is used as an accent color among interior designers.

Pink = Romantic and tranquil. Sports teams have been known to paint the locker room's used by opposing sports teams a bright pink to zap their energy level.

Blue = Peaceful and the most popular of colors. The color blue makes people think of the sky and the ocean. Blue has the opposite effect of the color red as it causes the body to release calming chemicals in the brain.

Blue is often used as the main color in bedrooms. Blue can also feel cold and depressing. Fashion experts recommend wearing the color blue to job interviews since it symbolizes loyalty.

People who work in blue colored rooms tend to produce more. Weight lifters do better in blue colored gyms as they are often able to lift a lot more weight.

Green = Calming and refreshing. Green is currently the most popular of colors. Green symbolizes nature.

It's also easy on the eye and can improve vision. Hospitals often use the color green since it relaxes most patients. Dark green is masculine, conservative, and resembles wealth.

Yellow = Happy and optimistic. Yellow is an attention getter color. It's often associated with happiness and sunshine.

Yellow can also cause some people to lose their temper. Babies tend to cry more in yellow painted rooms. The color can be difficult for the eye to take in if it's over-used.

Yellow is best used as an accent color. Metabolism is increased when one is in a yellow room. Yellow also helps to increase concentration and the reason why legal pads are produced in this color.

Purple = Feminine and romantic. Purple is the color of royalty, luxury, sophistication, and wealth. Purple is rarely seen in nature and can also appear artificial.

Brown = Solid and reliable. Brown is the color of the earth and is plentiful in nature. Light brown signifies genuineness.

It can also be somewhat sad and even wistful. More men than women like the color brown.

Silver = You tend to have a cool demeanor, like elegance, and love the futuristic look and design.

White = You tend to like things clean and organized. Have what most consider to be a fabulous personality.

Red = You enjoy driving fast. Have a sexy and dynamic personality with lots of energy.

Light/mid blue = You have a cool personality. You are a faithful, calm and quiet person.

Dark blue = You are credible, confident, and dependable.

Taupe/light brown = You prefer timeless things and have basic and simple tastes.

Black = You tend to feel empowered. You are not easily manipulated. Appreciate elegance and the classics.

Gray = You tend to be practical, pragmatic, sober and are cooperative.

Dark green = You are trustworthy, well-balanced and more traditional.

Bright yellow = You are trendy, whimsical, and have a lively personality.

Yellow gold = You are intelligent and have a warm personality. You also enjoy comfort and do not mind paying for it.

Sunshine yellow = You have a sunny and bright disposition. You tend to be joyful and young at heart.

Deep brown = You tend to be down-to-earth and have a no-nonsense attitude.

Orange = You have a fun-loving personality. You can be on the talkative side and enjoy trends.

Purple = You are very creative. You are also an individualist and have an original personality.

In some parts of the east I have seen berries and yams that are purple in color. There is a particular yam out of which they make a pudding usually for dessert and it's purple in color.

You say this color is rare in nature, well come to think of it there are no known animals that are purple in color. Birds, fish ... maybe.

what does intensity of color mean? could you address this in a hub? i mean, some purple lovers mean lavender but i mean more of an indigo/violet purple. some pink lovers mean pale pink and some mean hot pink. some people like orange red and some like blue red. hmm... fascinating!

What you said about green being easy on the eye .. that is the reason why the felts on pool tables are green :) Another thing about blue .. I *think* I heard somewhere about blue helps improve concentration. Some baseball teams use blue gloves to help the pitcher concentrate! Great hub, by the way!
