Easy Crafts Kids Can Make for Mom

Nothing makes mom feel more loved and special than to receive a gift their child has made especially for them.

These are easy crafts that young children can create themselves with a little adult supervision and assistance.

Whimsical Notepad:

Supplies needed: Red paper, white paper, scissors, tapestry needle and yarn.

Directions: Cut a red paper heart about six inches across. Now trace and cut out ten to twenty more hearts from the white paper. Then stack the white hearts up in stacks of five being sure to fold each of the stacks down the center. With the tapestry needle, poke holes every half inch down the middle folds. With the cover on top, stack the hearts together. Thread the yarn through the tapestry needle with the knot at one end. Now sew the yarn through the holes, being sure to knot it at the other end. Let the child decorate the cover as they wish.

Mom's Button Bracelet

This bracelet adorned with pictures of moms most loved ones makes a special gift on Mother's Day.

Supplies needed: Photos/digital pictures, circular craft punch or pair of scissors, colored beading elastic string, recessed thread hole buttons, glue or glue stick, 3-D glitter or fabric paint. It will take about two to three hours to complete this bracelet.

Directions: Pick out the photos with faces that fit the buttons you have chosen. Now cut a piece of the elastic string two inches longer than you want the bracelet to be. Thread the buttons onto the elastic until the bracelet is the size you would like it. Be sure to leave about an inch of extra string on each end of bracelet.Trace circles around the photo faces using a coin or other object that's round. Then cut them out. You can also use the craft punch instead of scissors if you like. Glue photos onto the buttons. With the glitter paint or 3-D paint decorate the edges of the buttons. Next, tie ends of the bracelet together and trim off any extra string.

More Ideas for Celebrating Mother's Day

A wonderful idea for younger children is to invite their mom to see a movie with them by including the movie section of the newspaper with an arrangement of spring flowers.

If you happen to have a variety of flowers growing in your garden snip a few to make a home-made arrangement or order one to be delivered from a florist. Include a gift certificate and a note or card letting her know she can pick the movie as well as include her favorite movie candy and a bag of microwavable popcorn.

Another creative gift is to purchase a few single stem roses or flowers and hide each one around the house. Then give mom clues to lead her to each rose or flower. To add a special twist you could have a pretty vase waiting for her at the last clues location. This way she can place all the roses or flowers she collected right into a vase filled with water. Have children make a list of things he or she finds most special about their mother and attach it to the last flower or rose. An adult will need to help a younger child make this kind of list. Let younger children decorate the list themselves.

Giving mom the day off is always a favorite with many mothers. Send her away for a relaxing day at a nice spa or set her up for a manicure or pedicure. To give mom a break doesn't mean she has to leave the house either. Designate the day's necessary tasks, serve her breakfast in bed and include a fresh cut flower in a small pretty vase on the tray.

Make mom a special dinner or draw her a bubble bath on the special day. Sprinkle fresh rose petals in the bath. Remember most mom's enjoy receiving a special piece of jewelry, a handmade card or a box of her favorite chocolates.

Moms love to receive photos of their children. Put together a number of photos that have been taken over the last years and place them onto a digital photo frame. This makes an everlasting and special Mother's Day gift.

Have each child make their own personalized Mother's Day card for mom. Ask them to include a list of the special things mom does for them and why they appreciate her.

Decorate the dining room table with helium balloons and crepe paper. Use a feminine lacy table cloth and special occasion dinnerware to have a special lunch or dinner for mom. Consider having a yard-a-gram set up in the front yard for mom wishing her a Happy Mother's Day to tell the neighborhood and mom how much you love and appreciate her.

Have a Mother's Day tea party. Place sugar cubes on a pretty piece of china, include a nice tea pot, slice up a lemon for the tea. Include finger sandwiches, dainty cookies, wafers or petite fours. Place a variety of different tea flavors on the table placed in a crystal bowl or on a small crystal serving plate. Fresh cut flowers or roses placed in a vase and included on the table setting dresses up the tea party atmosphere. Use paper doilies on the plates to make more of a tea party decor to place different foods on. Have the kids make a tea party invitation for mom. Another idea to have everyone dress in their best tea party apparel. Use your imagination. Go to thrift stores to look for this kind of apparel if you can't seem to put anything together in your wardrobes.

Put together a photo album for each child. You will need to plan this and start several weeks before Mothers Day. Include notes throughout the album or pictures and cards the kids have made for their mom throughout the year. You can also include lists of reasons why mom is special, accomplishments she has achieved or the reasons why you love her.

Give mom the gift of an infants molded foot print or a toddlers hand-print. You can purchase these kits from arts and crafts stores or you can make the molding material yourself as there are many recipes available on-line.

Letters and special poems written by a spouse or the children are always winners since this is endearing to any woman's heart. Use your creativity and imagination to make it a memorable day.
